Your surgeon should instruct you when to stop eating, drinking and taking medications. Generally, this is 8 hours before surgery. If he has not told you, ASK.

Aspirin, a nsaid like ibu, can inhibit blood clotting and exerts its effects on the platelets for the life of the platelet, which is up to 11 days. Ibuprofen does this, too, just to a lesser extent. Usually want to stop about a week before surgery but the surgeon should give you explicit directions on when to stop

That depends on your surgery. Usually it is 24 hrs. However, you should ALWAYS consult your Dr. concerning any questions or concerns you have about your surgery. so i would strongly suggest that you contact his office asap, and ask. Also, I find it to be a real good idea to keep a tablet with you, and every time you think of a question that concerns you ( even if it's just a routine Dr. visit) write it down so that you do not forget to ask. Merry Christmas, and good luck with your surgery!

In the past before surgery I've been told to stop taking any blood thinning meds 1 week before surgery.

Ibuprofen inhibits prostaglandin sythesis (COX 2 inhibitor), resulting in impaired platelet binding. It would probably be best to stop taking the ibuprofen 5-7 days prior to surgery, to allow production of new platelets. Also, minimizing excessive use afterwards might be plausible as Ibuprofin can cause GI bleeding, ulcers, and kidney damage.
