Well, I actually lived on Oahu for a few months.

What I saw was a lifestyle of most people similar to the "90210", whereby the Japanese own everything there and seem to be the people that are promoting the economy and doing the best. I saw very few areas of poverty around, especially in tourist areas, but I'm sure there are more than are portrayed, especially in "paradise".

I was told the high tourist prices are due to the fact that they have to import everything from the mainland.

I went twice in Hawaii.

The prices of food are higher (30-40%) so much that the fast food seems very cheap in comparison. Hawaii is richer because the tourist industry is bringing the money. Outside the South of Oahu (Honolulu and other cities), Hawaii is very quiet. The Big Island has very few inhabitants.

Nothing so crowded has Miami, Fort Lauderdale area. It is clean with a lot of luxurious houses but very simple in average.

The gas is a little more than California which is the highest on mainland. That is not as tropical as the Fiji Islands but that is a nice and quiet place to live.

no longer somewhat real. i've got observed that in case you save at customary chains, the fees are all tagged. even with the undeniable fact that, in case you flow to tourist areas which do no longer demonstrate their expenditures, then its very in all possibility greater than comparable products that are fee tagged. as an occasion, the nighttime industry distributors between Kalakaua & Kuhio have not got expenditures on their merchandise which potential they're going to often quote a extra suitable fee and open to negotiations (extra beneficial notice for bargaining). Then its as much as you to come back lower back with a low fee. no longer something to lose, in the event that they'd not sell, merely walk away. No stressful emotions. Its merely area of the agency. of direction locals seldom save there.
