I usually get about 5-6 sore throats every winter, sometimes more, and a few throughout the year. I was wondering if removing my tonsils would help this and also if removing them could be an elective surgery, since I don't believe I have tonsilitis.

I am in the same boat as you. I had sore throats all the time and when I get sick that usually my ailment. I still have my tonsils. This is of course something to discuss with a good Ear Nose and throat doctor. In some cases it makes NO diggerenc and in other case that is THE answer. best of luck If you do get them reomved and if it does help I widh you would let me know your results. I would love to be LESS sick
