Yards would go unkept. Mac Donalds would have no cooks. No fruit would get picked. There would be no nannies or gardners.
Building projects would come to a stop. Fields would be empty.Crops would rot. Meat plants would closed.
This only the first hour my friends. You need them to keep the country stable, no?

In general, a much nicer place. America needs illegals to leave...Yes!

keep telling yourself that, start putting up 'now hiring' signs for ag jobs, and I'll bet they get filled...I used to work on a ranch, it's outside work, but there's a positive aspect to that, too, get out and get some fresh air instead of being cooped up in an office.
You forget that a lot of people in our country are descendants from farmers, nor is farming/agriculture really 'high science' when it comes down to it, although applied science has been used to augment and improve the results, you really don't need a college degree to pick up a shovel etc. Some places still use horse-drawn plows to this day, and the whole family helps pull in the harvest, and they only hire extra people during harvest etc. The rest of the time, it's the family doing the work.

A little hard work wouldn't hurt most people, there's a national obesity problem, time to get some fatties off the couch and out there setting fence posts etc. All the illegal labor is just helping people to be lazy, if all the mexican laborers left, as you suggest, it might actually be the best thing in the world...more people should own work gloves, and work boots, and be able to don them, and go forth, and do some actual work. That would be Most Positive, I think...great idea! Can we make that a year? LOL

This is sheer nonsense. According to a new survey by the Pew Hispanic Center, illegals make up 24 percent of workers in agriculture, 17 percent in cleaning, 14 percent in construction, and 12 percent in food production. So 86 percent of construction workers, for instance, are either legal immigrants or Americans, despite the fact that this is one of the alleged categories of untouchable jobs.

Oddly, the people who warn that without millions of cheap, unskilled Mexican laborers, this country would face economic disaster are pro-business libertarians. They believe in the power of the market to handle anything except a slightly tighter labor market for unskilled workers. But the free market would inevitably adjust, with higher wages or technological innovation.

Take agriculture. Phillip Martin, an economist at the University of California, Davis, has demolished the argument that a crackdown on illegals would ruin it, or be a hardship to consumers. Most farming livestock, grains, etc doesn't heavily rely on hired workers. Only about 20 percent of the farm sector does, chiefly those areas involving fresh fruit and vegetables.

The average "consumer unit" in the U.S. spends $7 a week on fresh fruit and vegetables, less than is spent on alcohol, according to Martin. On a $1 head of lettuce, the farm worker gets about 6 or 7 cents, roughly 1/15th of the retail price. Even a big run-up in the cost of labor can't hit the consumer very hard.

Martin recalls that the end of the bracero guest-worker program in the mid-1960s caused a one-year 40 percent wage increase for the United Farm Workers Union. A similar wage increase for legal farm workers today would work out to about a 10-dollar-a-year increase in the average family's bill for fruit and vegetables. Another thing happened with the end of the bracero program: The processed-tomato industry, which was heavily dependent on guest workers and was supposed to be devastated by their absence, learned how to mechanize and became more productive.

I am so certain that you are one of those who are behind the pro-illegal movements because just like the other pro-illegals, you are doing it for your own personal agenda and gains. So stop trying to sound like you are some kind of saint with a bleeding heart.
the ever so slightly threatening tone
in the last line just gave it away, AMIGO, no?
(we need them to keep the country stable, indeed. oooooh, we are so scared that our lives will fall apart without these illiterate, unskilled mexicans who don't give a flip about the U.S. )

Tracey F I couldn't agree more with what you said. I had to do all the study and more to speak and write in English better than lots of Americans, then I see all these legal or illegal Hispanics having the privilege of having everything translated in Spanish for them so they don't even have to feel that they are not in their Home country.

Hick K, you need to get your spelling and grammar and thinking in English correct before making a point that people can understand.

What about us legal immigrants.Like me?Why dont you ever sympathize for us?We came here to work in NASA and do things that actually help the U.S and we go through it all the hard way.10 years is what it takes us to get a citizenship. For wanting to help America that is what we must go through. Is that fair? That those people get all the benifit and sympathy from the American people while we are not recognized. That just makes me sick to the stomach. Many legal immigrants come here as Engineers and professions as well as work for Microsoft. We even do farm work as well and yet you show so much respect to the Mexican community.Im going to have to say that other ethnic backrounds have been more usefull trust me.America would be at its knees without the legal immigrants. The ons that really want to help the U.S.Your question did not deal with legal or illegal however just how usefull the Hispanic community is.I am not bias but I think other back rounds have been more usefull to the U.S.A. Los Angels is a perfect example of a Latin American dominated place.A beutifull city in the day and a drug dealers haven at night.Florida is the opposite verzion of California dominated mostly by white,Indian Asian and African Americans. So what if you lose some employees. You know the demonstrations? The polls showed that employment was barely affected.Don't worry us legal immigrants can take the job!! We are always here even if you treat the illegals better : ).I know I might get many thumbs down for answering but your question is an opinion type so I will answer from my heart. My life would be better.Do you know what happens at my school. Those people who may give me thumbs downs just don't know how its like that's all.Im talking about school life.It would be better.I mean they make out with each other in the halls they are loud and obnoxious. They throw stuff and run down pushing everyone out of the way.Loudly they will yell vulgar things like "putho" and "van da ho".They get into fights all the time. The male wear long shirts and saag. The shirts will have disturbing pictures on them and send bad messages. They are not even there to learn.Just to socialize. When I deliver things to other classes I see them throwing paper and making out.I see all this stuff. Its so annoying.Once an illegal kid (as he admits) went up to me and said "Ai you have a bomb in that bag" since I am Indian and we look Arab.I had to reply unfortunatly with "ai you got a passport in that bag".I was ticked of so I had to say that. Those kids always get in trouble and it bothers me as well. You knw that immigration march for protest. That was my best day at school ever. Those awfull things did not happen at school.I am not a racist.Im just saying why does the Latin American community have to be influenced by that?

that depends...are you talking illegals or all Mexicans? If your'e talking about illegals, which I assume you are because you are listing off those occupations, the answer would be FABULOUS!!! The "day without a mexican" here in los angeles was wonderful! No traffic! Didn't have to worry about getting hit in my car by someone without insurance!
A whole month without illegals? Even better! No more "cash pay" patients at my hospital where I work (basically means we hire a translator to see if we can link them to Medicaid, where we essentially pay for their care anyway, or put them on a "payment plan" whereby they skip out on the bill and we absorb the cost anyway. No more having to hire or find a translator to talk to patients. No more having to accomodate someone who has no legal right to be here anyway!
I'm sorry but as a social worker I've had it. I bust my *** for a master's degree to help illegals get services that they didn't pay into in the first place? Please!

It sounds like you extracted bits and pieces from everywhere just to put this together. What's even worse is that you cannot even put your thoughts in writing using correct grammar! You have no room to put anyone down. If you are American born, then I am ashamed of you; you cannot even spell "MAC DONALDS" correctly. This is nothing more than a pathetic attempt to express thoughts on a topic that you really don't know much about.

Wrong, McDonalds can't hire illegals. And all the jobs you are speaking about would just go to the large amount of unemployed legal citizens. That doesn't sound so bad. Don't make it month, make it forever that we don't allow illegals to benefits off of our hard work when you can't even become a recognized legal member of our society. What do you have to hide anyway?

well first let me say I love everyone the same and second I plant my own gardens they are not empty, I cut my own grass and keep my yards up, mcdonalds has plenty of cooks of all races, fruits get picked here by all races not just one, my dear you must be talking about mexico, because as I see it we all do this not just mexicans and no we all need to stick together to keep this country stable, comments like this is what makes it so unstable. I am sure it would not matter what race it was if they were saving a member of your family would it. they are people also GOD made us all equal some of us just think we are better you need to grow up.

I don't have a yard, don't eat at McDonald's, don't have a gardener or a nanny, buy apples from Japan and New Zealand already and know for a fact that plenty of construction workers aren't illegal immigrants. Meat plants would have to start paying a fair wage again and meat might be more expensive. I don't mind cutting back on meat.

The USA would be better if your the example of a Mexican. You are a Racist and anywhere is better without racist as you seem to be
The very question is why there is so much animosity towards Mexicans when it could be directed towards the illegal alien invaders as it should be
This is the USA and not Mexico no assimilation
Illegal is not a RACE
