I have heard that this "reflex of yawning" is a trait that goes way back to pack behavior of mammals. If one of the pack yawns, the others do signaling that it is time to for all to sleep. If you all go to sleep at the same time, then you get up at the same time and can be more efficeint as a group.

I am not sure...i heard a long time ago that it has something to do with the pressure in the air.

I think that it is just the power of suggestion. Everyone knows that when one person yawns, you yawn.

The reason yawns are contagious? Power of suggestion perhaps. If you're out late with your friends after school, you're probably tired. You're probably on the verge of a yawn, too, and seeing one person do it is enough to drive everyone to yawns.

I looked this up here because i used to wonder also

it might be a dependent sense, like the feeling of seeing someone get hurt and you could amost feel that pain, this is natrual. you can stop this by forcing yourself not to do or a better way is to ignore the anxious feeling of yawning when someone else yawns usually try doing something else, for example saying bless you or something like that

scientists don't even really know why we yawn in the first place. it is said to get oxygen to the brain, but it's never really been proven. this will remain a mystery.

It's an involuntary sympathetic reaction. Just like you get a quick spook when you're watching a scary movie even though you know there is no real threat to your safety.
