It is because the US Government has had a dedicated campaign of lying about the subject since 1930. For example, the US Official Expert on marijuana testified in court, under oath, that marijuana could make your incisors grow six inches long and drip with blood. He went on to say that, when he tried it, it turned him into a bat.
(Surely you have seen these awful effects at parties.)
Harry Anslinger, the head of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics, knew that the marijuana laws were unenforceable so he used Reefer Madness as the only solution that he thought would work. It did work pretty well too -- look at the number of people who still believe that marijuana will turn you into a bat.
You should read the history of these laws at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/History/whiteb1.htm It is quite funny and surprising. The story is absolutely ridiculous.
Also, you should take a look at the collection of Reefer Madness through the ages at http://druglibrary.org/mags/reefermadness.htm You can safely assume that most of the stuff in that collection was either started or assisted by the Federal Bureau of Narcotics.
I should add that many of the messages above are absolutely absurd. The ones about killing brain cells, marijuana leading to harder drugs, etc., are straight out of the old Reefer Madness. Some of these people still righteously believe that marijuana will turn you into a bat, or that it will lead you to take heroin.
If you read the histories above, you will see that one of the reasons it was outlawed was the fear that heroin addiction would lead to the use of marijuana -- exactly the opposite of the modern myth. People love to believe in urban legends. For another example of how they come to believe these things see the history of the gateway myth at http://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/library/gateway_myth.htm

As a person that has had a long history with drugs of all kinds, I can tell you that there is no future in them. Marijuana is what is called a gateway drug. It frequently leads to other, more harmful drugs. There is no non intoxicating use of marijuana, as there may be for alcohol. What I mean is, you can have one or two drinks and not be high, but any amount of marijuana will intoxicate you, make you high. Do this too often it stops working and you may seek another, more powerful high. Of course, alcohol can be just as bad, if not worse. Don't let people fool you, marijuana use is not a good thing.
On a scientific standpoint, it doesn't so much kill your braincells as it coats them. It's kind of like an M & M coating. It keeps the cells from firing (communicating with other cells), so they may as well be dead.

Most people don't think it's bad , They know it's bad. It's harmful.
People who smoke marijuana say it isn't addictive , Which is extremely false. It kills brains , Not as much as other drugs but it kills your brain cells. You use your brain cells to think , to function. To make decisions. Without brain cells you'd be a vegetable.
If you're extremely high an you decide to drive , It's highly possible to end up in a car crash. The only reason people do drugs is because of peer pressure and being around it. If no one even knew of the drugs they wouldn't do them. They find out about drugs from their idiotic bad parents. Also from their friends.
I think it's stupid cancer patients actually get perscribed , Actual marijuana. It looks exactly the same as the kind your local drug dealer sells. They should find the exact type of chemicals in marijuana and form it into a pill. It's very possible and most likely very pricey. Also Mafias don't sell marijuana , if any thing they sell heroin and cocaine. Drug cartels sell marijuana. Mexican cartels and the columbian cartels , Maybe the cuban cartels to.
The guy below me seems like a moron , No offense. Just because your mother says they don't kill brain cells , Makes it true? Marijuana kills brain cells not as much as heroin or other drugs but as I said it gets the job done. If a person smokes marijuana continuously , in time they'll get bored of and try some thing new. I know , I know people who started at marijuana and are now doing other drugs. It's not that likely , But it's possible if the person is an extreme pot head. In years though.

The 1st thing is that drugs kill your brain cells. For example one of the 1st things marijuana start to kill is the cells that help us to orthography. Example, you can't write eveyone, because is everyone, is don't not dont, is what's not whats. Did you get the message? Drugs aren't bad just for you and the others because you are driving a car or any other machinery and, but your self too. Perhaps if you do it, don't spread the use of it in here. Perhaps makes rich many "big shots" inside the USA and many cartels out side here that are killing people to get power in their own countrie. Every time you buy maijuana you,re supporting this killing, meanwhile you're getting into a pitchblack because your addiction to it.

I believe you that marijuana has a social stigma that it doesn't deserve. even with the undeniable fact that, you've overreacted, and also you presently trust a gaggle of nonesense. Cigarettes do no longer damage your lungs more beneficial than smoking marijuana. in truth, weed smoke has an marvelous quantity of tar, that you probable understand in case you have ever wiped clean resin out of a bong. it really is "shown" that parents who smoke have smart toddlers? it really is ridiculous. How ought to you "tutor" that? possibly there are analyze that advise it truly is authentic, yet you sound very uneducated once you're making wild claims about "evidence." It facilitates anorexia? what's your evidence for that? I heavily doubt it extremely is authentic. Oh, and by no skill anybody who takes marijuana is non violent. i wager you've by no skill been round gangs. So, what's undesirable about it? it truly is psychoactive and may convey about a pair psychological complications. it truly is quite risky for your wellbeing, and that's augmented by the very shown truth that human beings like you've self belief it truly is risk free. it truly is unlawful, honest or no longer. The buds scent particularly effective, even with the undeniable fact that the smoke smells like dogs $h!t. it truly is psychologically addictive. and ultimately, it exposes you to the underground element and will strengthen your publicity to harder drugs, the risks of that are undeniable.

currently when polled its about a 50/50 split..and thats leaving no room for the undecided....the fear comes from mis-information generated by the prohibition minded governments. see the problem is "everyone" doesnt think "anything", which is where you get the taboos. Cinsider for a moment alcohol prohibition..."everyone" didnt think alcohol was bad...only the government,,which is why it didnt last!
overgrow the government!!!
free the BC3!!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Emery
p.s. for those who say the $$ goes to your local mafia.....very untrue.....in BC “Marijuana accounts for up to five percent of the GDP in British Columbia alone,” says Stephen Easton, a professor of economics at Simon Fraser University. That means the infamous “B.C. bud” is worth more than the mining, oil and gas, and logging industries. BC bud grown by independent BC entrepenuers, not oragnized crime......

baffles me. Thats how I feel about it. You never hear of anyone killing anyone in a car accident because they were high. Yet, the rates for drunk driving accidents are through the roof. I really think its because the government doesnt profit from it. Have you seen the Freeway Ricky Ross story? Its a story about government and the introduction of cocaine in LA. Its really interesting how the government started the whole epidemic.
