For the first time in two years I saw one of my cockatiel's sitting on the other's back. They were making funny sounds and it lasted about 3 minutes. Winter is about to start, but we had a few warm days in Taiwan. Can someone tell me if my birds actually tried to make babies? I know something about birds, but this is a first for me.

Yes you have a mating ritual going on. If you don't want them to produce babies or begin a host of other problems then you should seperate them.

Many people think it is fun and exciting to see this happen but if you are not well educated in breeding this can be a time of real concern. These are two young birds and they will make a lot of mistakes before they get it right on their own and you are responsible for them. Please really consider consulting a no breeding appoach for your pets.

This sounds like mating and play so the male can show off how strong he is. The female will look for colors and different thing about the male before they start to mate.

They are definitely mating. You will need to put a nest in the cage so they can prepare for the babies. You can sell the babies for $80 apiece.

They sound like they are in love. You don't mention if they are in fact a boy and girl, however girls can still have eggs even if they aren't having sex. If they love their owners, they lay eggs. If it is indeed a boy and girl - they are most probably having sex.
