1. Don't cut it.
You'd guessed that already. But the real question is whether to have maintenance cuts. Maintenance cuts will make your hair look a little better, but it will take a lot longer to grow out. My suggestion is to avoid maintenance cuts unless you feel you absolutely must have them.

2. Be Gentle!
Most short-haired men have no clue how to take good care of their hair. They are amazingly violent with it when shampooing and combing. You'd think they were trying to damage it. They even force their way through snags.

Stop! Be as gentle as possible with your hair. Think of it as being fragile. Scrub gently. Loosen snags very gently with your fingers; not with a comb or brush. Start being gentle with your hair now, or you'll wish you had later on.

When you force your way through a snag, you damage the hair. Part or all of it is warped into erratic curls. Do it often enough, and the damage will be obvious.

If you were using heavy gell before, stop as soon as it's long enough to behave well enough with mousse instead.

3. Use Conditioner.
Conditioner goes a long way toward preventing damage. It also makes it easier to get through snags, as it makes the hair more slippery. It even makes your hair easier to control.

Though my hair is oily, I use heavy conditioner made for dry hair -- Pantene Pro-V "Daily Treatment Conditioner For Dry or Damaged Hair". I use it every day. I shampoo with Pantene Pro-V "Daily Clarifying Shampoo".

There are various opinions about this; some would have you put oil in your hair, others would have you shampoo only every other day so that the natural scalp oil (called "sebum") has more of a chance to get at your hair. Whatever. I have to wonder if some of those natural-is-always-better types walk around in bearskins, toting spears. ("Hey Og! Those mastodon ribs would taste better if you held them over a fire for a while!" "No way, Grok -- dat not natural!") I figure the idea is to remove the dirty oil and replace it with clean oil -- so I do that every day by shampooing and conditioning.

There is nothing you can do to make it grow faster!! Cutting it doesn't make it grow faster. That's an old wives tale.
Use conditioner and don't comb or brush it when its wet. Use your fingers to gently get out any tangles.
Find a hairdresser you trust and keep your hair healthy with regular trims of 1/4 inch every 6 -8 weeks. Hair grows, on average, 1/2 inch a month. So in 8 weeks, it will have grown 1 inch. So losing that 1/4 inch is really nothing.
There are products out there that have mint in them. They are supposed to stimulate the blood flow to the scalp and make hair grow faster. I honestly don't know if they work. The theory is good, but I've never tried it.
American Crew makes a mint conditioner for men, if you're interested.

Just make sure you take care of your hair if you straighten it make sure you use a heat protector like bio silk or something so that your ends do not split and break your hair..try not to brush your hair while its wet try using a really good conditioner where you can run your fingers threw your hair while being wet just make sure you take good care of your hair..alos if you wanted to could try extentions that are cliped in not the kind that rip all of your hair out my friend has some and you cant even tell its fake ( the hair is real)and they were only 80 dollars

I have been taking hair supplements for the past 3 years and here is what I have found.
ProCaps labs makes a great supplement called "Hair Skin and Nails" formula, here is the link for that
http://www.procapslabs.com/pcl/pages/pro...
This is in capsule form and easy to swallow. This company, ProCaps labs is also extremely reputable and carries pure and effective products.
I took GNC's Nourishair for four months, and supplemented it with extra Biotin tablets daily due to its low Biotin content. I took 2500 micrograms extra Biotin with the GNC pills.
The Procaps hair vites have 2500 micrograms of Biotin in them, and don't really require extra Biotin be taken, but I do take an additional 2500 micrograms of Biotin for a daily total of 5000 micrograms of Biotin.
My hair is growing in thick and dark and quite quickly. My hair used to be very slow growing, but all of these supplements have really made a difference.
The only way to really change the health of your hair is by taking supplements that work internally on the follicle where hair is made, any shampoos or oils or other topically applied things do nothing to change hair's structure, that can only happen with systemically provided support, which means supplements that you take internally.. Keep in mind, regardless of how many or how much you take of any supplement, hair is never going to grow at a "Jack and the beanstalk" type of rate, the most you can hope for is to improve the strength and health of each hair follicle and to see an incremental increase in the rate of its growth

I am in the same shoes right now and I got cornrows to help pull on my roots and make my hair grow. I did it when I was younger and it worked so here goes nothing :)
