I use to be in the air force and my husband is currently in the air force in Iraq. I was security forces. He is security forces K9 handler. I like it! There are ups and downs! But the pride is the best!! Expect your brother to be a changed man when he is done with all of his training!!!

EDIT_ and the "security forces" do not JUST check ID cards all of the time they have civilians doing that now. Boring Yes it may be! But it is very needed. They do more than sit at a gate shack. And as you move up you will do more. My husband is currently deployed with the Army doing his JOB! And that JOB is not to salute officers as they pass through the gate.

The first thing they teach an MP is that they are now in a different Army. "You no longer are a member of the regular United States Army!" Why, because MP's are Police Soldiers who work for the Man. They put regular troops in jail for asking a question! That my be a little strong, but that is how they are viewed from afar. Army Police are soldiers you never meet outside of duty. They dissolve into the woodwork and conceal their identities.
In all fairness, they are Soldiers doing a very particular type of job which is certainly a necessary job to keep Soldiers from getting anywhere near the General's daughter. In four years, I stood in front of one General, and he was in pajamas acting as if he where sick in the Hospital. We had one of those silent, I go left, he goes right, so I stop and he stops. I see General Officer, he see a plight on the wall, a dead rat, scum of the earth, and I go right and he goes left and I disappear into the wall of the hall.
Just joking. HA HA. All soldiers are identical in many ways. If the poop hits the fan, then the private is issued a shovel. If the enemy hits the wire, then the private is order to do or die trying. The General Officer is issued pj's and given tea under all conditions.
So, your brother will be a little different type of soldier, but a grunt non the less.
There is no other.

Well, if he's in the AF, then it's not MP, it's SP. MP is an Army term. Secondly, I would tell him to get ready for some of the most boring work of his life. The SP's are the ones who stand our gates, checking ID cards and allowing cars to pass...they also walk the perimeter of the bases and stand guard for some aircraft. Walking back and forth and around an airplane for 8 hours...or waving your hand back and forth...for 8 hours. Yay. All my SP friends HATE it...and my husband even got pulled for SP Augee duty (where they pull people from other career fields to fill in when they are short-manned). He would sit in a truck for 8 hours on the flightline w/another guy and take turns napping. I worked on the flightline and caught him several times. So, there you go...not too much fun... but not too bad either...he'll be getting paid for it.

I don't know what the MP training is like, but I served in the Air Force and I loved it. I would still be in the air force if my personal circumstances were different.
