I have learned that Hindus also believe in One Supreme God but my question is are all the other Gods lesser in comparison to the supreme God or are they same as the Supreme God but just exist in different forms?

Hindus worship God (Brahman) in two aspects transcendent (impersonal) and immanent (personal). In the impersonal aspect Brahman is without attributes (nirguna Brahman). In personal aspect (saguna Brahman) the God is creator, preserver and controller of the universe.
In higher Philosophies of Hinduism we worship God as transcendent. However some other schools of thought worship God as immanent and is manifested in many forms.

As far as i have understood u are asking about those Hindus who worship God as immanent(personal). In this aspect there are some main manifestations of God namely Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh, Shakti . They are the Supreme Lord but only in different forms. They carry out various Cosmic Functions of the Supreme Lord.

"Gods" would not be an appropriate term to describe the other 33 types (Or as some people would like to say 330million "Gods") of "Gods". Demi-Gods or angels (devas) would be more correct. These devas, however, are all servants of the one Supreme Lord, and are never to be mistakenly confused with the Supreme Lord. Hindus respect these devas, and even propitiate them in times of need, we also readily acknowledge that these devas, too, have their origin and sustenance in the one Supreme Lord. Many of these devas / "Gods" are actually the life supporting powers; Sun (Surya), Water (Varuna), and Air (Vayu) without which the life cannot exist. In Hinduism these elements which make the life possible are praised, respected along with the Very Essential God. But all of these devas are only servants of the supreme lord. All the devas originate from the Supreme Lord.

In other words they are all a manifestation of the divine.

Basically all Hindus believe in a single GOD who is supreme.

Its easy to understand the concept this way--

Like water has a basic form which is pure and unique throughout, but it is found and used in different ways and manners, you have teh sea water, lake water, river water, rain water, etc. but does it change the basic quality of water?.... No water is water whatever form it may be found in.

Similarly according to Hinduism there is one supreme GOD and what we worship in form are mere manifestation of that supreme self to guide and help people learn and realize the truth.

if u take a bucket of water from the ocean it stil will be ocean water but not the ocean itself, similarly Gods whos idols are worshipped and adored are a part of the manifested self of the supreme GOD but not teh supreme GOD itself.

hope that expalins.

thanks

The lesser Gods are just forms for the mind to focus on. It is kind of like how when you carry a photo of your loved one or of your children in your wallet. You want to look at it in order to feel the love you have for them. But is it the piece of paper that you love? Or is it the representation/symbolic of the real thing? That is the same idea of when we worship dieties. They help us feel the love in our hearts and give our minds a one pointed focus because the mind needs to see something concrete. God is formless, abstract. Not many of us can feel motivated or feel love on something we cannot see, touch or feel. Does that make sense to you? All lesser gods cannot act without the will of God. They are just bridges to Him, carrying us over the Ocean of Transmigration.

What is hinduism? Hidu Religion who is real god in hinduism? Brahmam when this was named? Hindu name :-Some medivial period by Arabs Brahmam's name:-from time immemorial who started it ? No single individual-It is Sanaathanam=from time immemorial who are the followers? 1.2 billion people all over the world. who does it belongs to ? to 6 billion world population what hindu religion preach or teach There are 100s of web sites to refer. what are its basic concepts and principles? Same as above ( for eg. Ahimsa cannot be hindu pricinple though it is your statement is wrong .Ahimsa is Hindu principle--"Ahimsa Paramo Dharmaha" if ahimsa is hindu concept why then animal sacrifice Animal sacrifice is not in main Stream of Hinduism --It is in other Indian ETHNIC Religions. Tantram simply means Action"Silent communication" by gestures" etc with "Divinity" is Taantric-Black Magic is NOT Taantric. Why so much of confusion in basic understanding of hinduism? Only you are confused 1.2 Billion Hindus have NO confusion at all-They have a very clear understanding and it is on the RISE. Why Hindu gods have no history? No other Religious God has any History -only Mythology is there in other religions also.Hindu "Avatharams"ike sri.rama and sri.Krishna have History (Aithikaasam). Hindu is claimed to be old religion, then why no evidence was found in Indus valley excavations? How do you know there is No evidence? What has benn excavated is only a microscopic part A lot remains to be excavated. In Hastinaapuram excavations Mahabharatham evidences are there.. Was hinduism offshoot of Sramanic religion of dravids? (sramanic religion is known as Jain) Jainism is 2700 years old .Vedic(Hindu) Religion is 6000 years old (Please refer Max Muleer and sir .Monier Williams.) The portion of India below Vindhya mountains is "Draavida Desam"--above Vindya mountain upto Himachalam(Himalaya Mountain) is "Gauda Desam" they are just Goegraphical Regional names--Politically twisted.. Upper class aryans --"Arya" simply means Noble person. It is not a Caste Name.Even in England Noble persons --Duke -Earl etc--House of Lords are there."Arya is just a similar name.--Politically twisted.. .

It is not known for sure when the Tipitaka was written down, but it is thought to have attained its present shape in Sri Lanka sometime in the first century B.C.
