Make sure you are getting properly hydrated first of all.
If you have been getting an increase in headaches and your doctor prescribes you plain pain killers I would change to a Neurologist to see if they are Migraines. Only he will do an MRI to see if they are true Migraines, that is their specialty. Headaches aren't normal. I have had them since I was a child and I started having them about 3-4 times a week. My family doctor told me they were stress headaches and told me to relax. I decided to go see a Neurologist because they were making my vision blurry and vomiting and dizzy. Well the MRI showed, scars on my brain and signs of cluster migrains. So now I am being treated with vasodilators. Low dose blood pressure pills which keep the blood vessels from constricting causing headaches. I still get them but not nearly as often. I take something (Zomig 5mg odt) when I do get them and works great.
Hope this helps...good luck
have you tried, Excedrin?

If the headaches are really severe, you may actually have migraines, not headaches. If you're sure they're not migraines, then bayor is a good choice... if you can't have that, Tylenol. However, if it is a migraine that you're facing, then bayor may not be enough... and then it would be best to consult a doctor to determine which medicine may suit you best... this is because even if I were to suggest a good medicine, you may have complications that could cause serious medical problems (eg- high blood pressure leading to heart-attack), and your general care physician should have more options because he/she should know exactly what your medical history is, and could prescribe something (or suggest it, if you don't or can't pay for prescription medication).
Hope this helps,
Aloha,
Dave

When I have a severe headache, I usually take to extra strength Tylenol. Take 2 cold wet rags or cold packs, Go lay down on my bed and place one pack on forehead and other around my neck. Then turn the lights off. Turn off all noises and lay peacefully. The cold rags seem to restrict the pulsating nerves in my head so my headache is gone by morning.

okay one thing to start it out with is that, medications are mostly there for you to get addicted to, best things for a head ache is to keep your nutrition level at a good level daily, that means eat right morning lunch and dinner, if you feel like it get a snack. don't sleep too much or too little. and most importantly drink enough water remember your brain floats on water!

This may not hold true in your case, but many headaches are caused by withdrawl symptoms from pain relief medications.
If you are consistently headache free for a few days after taking medication before a recurring headache, you may be suffering from pain medication withdrawal.
