Boss' gum smacking is driving some of us crazy. Happens every day all the time. Don't know how to safely approach this issue. Boss is very fair and understanding, but might think we are petty. What to do? Help!

You might just go to your boss and say something like, "Hey, I don't know if you were aware, but your gum makes noises. I just thought you'd like to know."

It is really rude... The way that I have found especially with my husband and his friends (they have a few beers and the language is out of control) I try to always make it a joke. I will ask something like "wow are you guys having a cussing contest? Seriously its overkill." Or when someone uses Gods name I will answer them with a "Yes" and they will stop and be confused. and I will just be like oh when you said Gods name I thought you were talking to me. After you do it a couple of times any reasonable person will get the hint or just not say it around you. Hope this helps.

you could quietly go up to him and mention the gum smacking, and ask him to please not do it, because it gets quite annoying sometimes. or you could try doing this:
whenever the smacking gets unbearable, pretend that you dont know where the smacking is coming from and mention how it bothers you a little to one of your coworkers. this might embarass your boss into stopping.

ughhhh... i know what you mean...i think gum should be outlawed!!!! what i would do (since these people are oblivious to dirty looks!) is to have a friend or two around who is also fed up, then loudly say to him or her....JOE...PLEASE STOP CHEWING YOUR GUM LIKE A PIG!!! THAT IS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!!! of course your friend will be in on this, and hopefully your idiot boss will tone down...good luck!!!

keep a small bowl of hard candies on your desk or maybe some yummy single- wrapped chocolates in there, too, and offer him/her one. if he/she accepts, they'll take the gum OUT. lol.
