There is no answer for your questoin beacuse there are to many factors involved. Reliability will depend on how an owner takes care of the car. Even a Honda or Toyota will break down if not properly maintained.
Length of life is based on where the car is (snow belt, desert, tropics) and how the car is cared for, driven, etc. Value is based on milage, make model, age, condition, trade in value versus retail value etc.
Yes typically foriegn cars outrank domestic cars in initial quality, reliability etc but no one can tell you how a car will be 10 -15 years down the line due to all the factors that play in. Foriegn cars do have an advantage as they tend to be a bit better to begin with but there is a premium to pay for that. As always you get what you pay for. Look at all the angles including your ownership habits, this will get you closer to the right answer for you.

Hi there,
A 1999 Nissan Altima is a very good and reliable car. I owned one and it had 156000, miles on it before it got totaled. I bought it used with about 35000 miles on it. Never did anything to it other than routine maintainance.
I looked the car up in Consumer Digest. If you look this car up there you will find it to be one of the most reliable cars ever.
There may be other cars out there too, but generally, Honda's, Toyota's, and Subaru's are very reliable vehicles too.
Hope this helps.

The Willie's Jeep - America owes its freedom to this little vehicle that was only conceived during the war and expected to last no longer than the war. It sure proved everybody wrong. I was made as the customer requested - Uncle Sam. And it was sent to run in places the motor car had never been to. Check with the Smithsonian if you want to know more about it. You can call it the grandfather of the Jeep Wrangler.

In my opinion, it is Toyota Corolla. Even after so many years, it is a much desired car and gives good performance.
Honda cars are also reliable (but next to Toyota).

I think Hyundai Sonata 2005. Quality like Mercedes, cheap car care / customer service and best car price. I love this “Mercedes” car. The 2005 model looks better than the new 2006.

the best??? hard to say. however Honda's are known for their amazing reliability, and they also hold their value great. but if you want something a little bigger, get a Dodge Ram with a Cummins Diesel. they run FOREVER!!! plus they hold value great. i had a '92 diesel ram that had 625,000 miles on it before i sold it. it was still running when i got rid of it!!! there is NO better motor out there.p

I'd have to say some sort of Toyota, like the Corolla someone mentioned above. Guy at work had one with 245,000 miles on it, leaking oil but still original.
Definitely not the VW bug.

I have a 1997 Honda Civic LX 4-speed automatic with 248,000 miles. It still works. Honda is one of the best cars in my opinion.

If you want a relative answer, it's the Tucker Talisman that came out in the 40's or 50's (I can't remember).
It was light years ahead of the other cars for it's time. It even had a primitive fuel injection system!
However, the big car companies ran him out of business because they had the money and knew their cars couldn't compete with his. So they bullied him into submission and he sold them his patents for peanuts.
