His eyes were wide open and he said it made him sleepy. Has anyone else had this happen? I'm concerned that it could be a sign of epilepsy.

It is more likely something called vasovagal syncope. This is the same type of fainting which happens when a person is scared, sees blood, or has some other emotional experience. Not having his eyes shut does not mean that he had a seizure. In fact, there can even be a few seconds of seizure-like activity after vasovagal syncope.

In any even, this loss of consciousness should be evaluated by a pediatrician who knows the boy and his medical history well.

Kids sometimes get nervous about things leaving their bodies. I have heard of kids afraid to go to the bathroom because they didnt like the pee to leave them. It makes no sense to me a full grown adult but to a kid it can be scary I guess. When your tooth comes out for the first time there is a little blood and the you have a tooth in your hand which seemed to be so stable in your mouth so I'm betting it was just shocking to him.

I've fainted after loosing too much air. I was trying out breathing through a straw, and blacked out cuz I didnt have enough air. If you're really concerned, take him to a doctor.

no maybe he's just a little girly.(just joking) I would go the the DR. He may feeling pain differently, there a disorder when people feel pain easily, they can't be touch bla/bla, sensory disorder but usually combined with other disorders in extreme cases like Autism or PDD .Not epilepsy!

Was there any blood when he lost the tooth? When I was that age I would pass out at the smallest sight of my own blood.
