My son had those at your son's age and hi pediatrician called them "Allergic Shiners" and circles got worse if he ate things that he was allergic to....Fortunately, he is now almost sixteen and no longer has the problem!
Good luck!!

There can be lots of causes. Is he having a lot of other symptoms of the allergies? Could be lack of sleep. Is he getting at least 9 to 10 hours of sleep per night? I know it sounds like a silly question but many Americans have sleep deficit (including kids). Other than that trauma is another cause. Better get a second opinion.

Allergies. My sis is allergic to corn, milk protein and cocoa beans. Her favorite foods growing up, before we knew about the allergies, were Doritoes, Dr. Pepper and Special Dark Chocolate. Her eyes were sometimes bruised looking like someone had punched her. My son is allergic to just about every tree in East TN. He gets that bruised look occasionally, too. He takes Singulair and it really helps.

well dark circles around the eyes could mean that the baby is not getting enough sleep, it would be the same with a normal grown person if they don't get the right amount of sleep. this would mean that the child needs to get more rest... if the child gets the right amount of sleep per day i suggest you consult your doctor

Those dark circles are caused either by sinus problems, low iron or are just natural from the reflection off of his eye color

Hmm. Sometimes infants are still learning that their arms are a part of their body, and they often hit themselves by accident until they learn. But still, three-years-old I think is too old for that. If I were you, I'd take him/her to more than just one doctor if you are really worried and positive that he/she is getting enough sleep and not hurting himself/herself during the day somehow.

I'm not an expert, but I would think either lack of sleep, or some kind of deficiency in his/her diet (iron, vitamins, etc.)
