someone that is low end on the totem pole. usually refers to work-related or something general in life. can also refer to an insult that a person is little or no significant or importance

When I lived in the south a piss ant was red and it stung
so a piss ant was some one that was always a bother,
not big enough to step on

Believe it or not the "piss-ant" exists, also known as the "sugar ant" because of its sweet smell. It rarely stings.
