War time is no time to join the Army. You are asking for your life to get worse. Wars don't play, the reality is down right horrible.
Consider this: You probably are aware of all the rotten things people say about Government, well some of what they say is true. The Military is one of the most screwed up government programs ever created. The only reason it continues to exist is because we often have leaders that so misuse their powers that we need the military to fend off the anger peasants knocking at the borders.
I was in Ammo, and when we were at peace we were used to move bombs and pieces of bombs from one revetment to another just to keep us busy. I once was ordered to put fire exit signs inside of small block house used to store various explosive parts of rockets and so forth. There was no windows. The walls were solid brick. The heavy door was oak wood and took up a enter wall. They block houses were four feet square! Several days of putting up emergency exit signs with arrows. I wrote on the signs in many block houses, "For Sargents only!"
Then we went to war, and all the sensible activities stopped. We bombed civilians for six years, killed over a million Vietnamese and they killed 60,000 Americans and then went home with a broken Military in shock and the whole Country was sick and tired of War. And we have now done it again. 3000 American dead may very will turn into 30,000. dead American Soldiers.
You don't want to join the Military, not now anyway.

The Army has raised the enlistment age to 42 (for Active Duty, Reserves, and Army National Guard), made possible under provisions of the Fiscal Year 2006 National Defense Authorization Act.
The Army raised the active-duty age limit to 40 in January as an interim step while it worked out the additional medical screening requirements for recruits ages 40 to 42. Before January, an applicant could not have reached his or her 35th birthday. The Army Reserve age limit was raised from 35 to 40 in March 2005.
Raising the maximum age for Army enlistment expands the recruiting pool, provides motivated individuals an opportunity to serve and strengthens the readiness of Army units. More than 1,000 men and women over age 35 have already enlisted since the Army and Army Reserve raised their age limits to age 40.
All applicants must meet eligibility standards, to include passing the physical standards and medical examinations; however those 40 to 42 will be given additional medical screening.
