Put it into a large shallow container. As long as it is spread out and not too thick, you can put it in the fridge. It will cool alot faster than if it is in one solid mass. I'd let it cool spread out for 1/2 hour before putting it in the fridge first.

Your question makes perfect sense.

Chili is always better the next day, so got to bed and get some sleep.

You can never put something in the fridge too soon. Bacteria grows on food when it's left out for an extended period of time.

You said you want to leave it on the stove. Is it done? If not, fridge it and finish cooking it tomorrow.

I would say put it in the refrigerator. I made a big pot of it once and decided to let it simmer on low overnight. It seemed to be slightly fermented or fizzy in the morning, so I would never do that again. It would be a good idea to let the pot sit in the sink full of cold water for 5-10 minutes just to rapidly cool it down so when you put it in the fridge you don't warm things up too much in there..

It is better to let it cool first, however since there is no meat in the meal then you can put in the fridge, just transfer the food into a different container, do not leave it in the pot. Salmonella only grows on food that is from animals, meat, eggs, etc...

You are fine, just put it in another container if possible and put it in the frige and everything will be ok. I have been know to leave stuff out on the counter top all night long and then put it the frig the next morning and still be fine. Just don't leave it on the stove over night.

Throw some ice in the sink put pot in add water, stir for about 10mins and put it in the fridge, don't forget to put a stopper in the sink drain hole.
Putting something in the fridge has nothing to do with the product your trying to get cold, it's what it does to the "other"products safe storage temperature

Actually putting it in the fridge while still warm is a GOOD thing! It'll go directly from Hot to Cold PREVENTING bacteria. Just put a hotplate on the fridge shelf if it's made of glass so that the heat of the pan won't break the glass.

Put a wire rack in the sink to keep it up off the bottom (for water to circulate) and put cold water and ice in the sink. Stir occasionally. This is why I prefer to make big pots of soup in the winter, I can take it out and drop it in the snow.

Cool the hot soup quickly by placing it in a bowl set over another bowl filled with ice water. This method allows less time for bacteria to grow.

It depends on how long you will be sleeping. I would just put it in the fridge now to eliminate any problems in your house as in a fire. Better to be safe then sorry!
