Going from dark brown to platinum blonde

NEVER DO THIS YOURSELF. First of all, it's extremely difficult to know how long to keep the color in to achieve the platinum blonde you want. second, if you don't keep it on long enough your hair will likely be orange and if you keep it on too long your hair has a good chance of falling out and it can burn your scalp horribly. In addition, going platinum blonde from dark brown is a long process. You will be hard pressed to achieve that result in one coloring. I have dark blonde hair and having it done professionally at Aveda it has still taken 3 visits to come up with the platinum blonde I want. And, after you do achieve platinum blonde, you have to go through a lot of maintenance. Getting your roots touched up isn't the only maintenance for blonde hair. If you don't want your platinum to be yellow, you have to use special shampoos formulated for white blonde hair.
IN CONCLUSION: go to a professional. They can achieve the result you want a whereas you probably will not be able to. They can also minimize the damage caused by bleach because they use a professional quality bleach that you can't buy at stores. do not try to do this yourself. you WILL ruin your hair and you WILL NOT be pleased with the result.

Go to a professional.
Doing this at home can leave you with orange and yellow hair. I have used Ultra-Blue in the past and ended up with yellow-white roots and orange ends -- horrible.
A professional will be able to help you not only choose the right blonde shade for your skin tone but also to make sure it doesn't come out looking like one-color straw.

go to a hairdresser. you won't be able to go platinum blonde straight away. most home kits do not have very good bleach and your hair will most likely go orange. also make sure you user a toner and shapoo and condioner from blonde hair (the darker the purple the better).

hope this helps :)
