well drinking causes kidney and liver damage, if your diabetic it can cause damage, prolonged dehydration, there are a few reasons if you have this problem your doctor should of told you why, and what caused it.

Assuming it was not congenital and was not caused by some external trauma, the following can cause kidney damage: alcoholism, ongoing dehydration, not drinking enough water meaning you're replacing the water intake you should be having with other liquids such as soda, coffee, etc. And ofcourse poor diet.

Heavy alcohol consumption, heroin, cocaine, drugs found in both over-the-counter and prescription pain killers, too much calcium in the diet, too much protein in the diet, too much sodium, insufficient fluid intake, waiting to urinate, diabetes, high blood pressure can all cause severe damage to the kidneys.
