Why are card games viewed as bad by some religions?

It seems like a no no at the ones I have been to. I mean I know that drinking is often thought to be involved or gambling, but why can't you play them at a holiday church party? I feel like drinking and gambling or whatever the reason, could be done with any game or recreation. Is there a logical explanation for that? What is the big deal?

All I can say is that it has been taught in local churches as a sin.
