2. Plantains has more starch than a banana. Hence, they aren't as sweet as a banana. A green plantain is sometimes described to be more potato-like than banana-like.

Yes they are, but you want to be sure to get the greener of the plantains. They are usually near the banana section of the produce department.
Make Tostino's
heat heavy bottomed pan with 1/2" of oil
peel plantain, cut 3/4" coins
when a chopstick or wooden spoon handle tip bubbles in the hot oil you know it is hot enough.
Fry coins til pale yellow. Drain on paper towels. WAIT your not done.
Let them cool a bit, then smash them with the side of a knife or your hand.
Return smashed plaintains to oil and fry till golden brown and delicious (gbd, says Alton)
Now. Drain again and season. Traditionally served with catsup/ketchup.
Delicious with a cold one -- great substitute for tater tots.

yup just fry them in a pan with oil. Peanut oil sounds good with that. Or a lot of butter. Put some salt on them and its all good. I think you can mostly get them at a mexican fruit market. They are OK, they're not hte best thing I've ever had.
