I have heard that Akhal Tekes are good endurance horses, but the number of Akhal Tekes registered is really small so it's hard for the breed to get noticed. Overwhelmingly, competitive endurance riding is dominated by Arabian purebreds or part-Arabs. An Akhal Teke would really, really have to stand out by winning something like the Tevis Cup ride in order to get noticed. Coming in in the top ten would help, but if there aren't a lot of the breed for people to see, then you're kind of shouting in the wilderness, trying to get noticed.
I think that the problem that you have is that people are not going to pay a premium price to buy a member of your breed if they can find a cheaper horse of another breed that can do what they want as good or better than a purebred Akhal Teke would. That makes it really, really hard for a breeder to make breeding them a financial success.
Good luck to you.

What are Akhal Teke's suitable for? I have seen pictures but have yet to see one competing in any thing. LEt us know what activities you are interested in and I am sure someone here can point you in the right direction.

All four- legged livestock have the same basic conformation. I think what you are seeing in the horse is it's 'type'. Type is different from conformation. And type varies from horse to horse depending on the horse breed's intended purpose, but correct conformation does not. Same goes for other animals as well. Cattle, sheep, goats, horses, are all about the same in conformation. Which can make them pretty easy to judge. If you learn to judge one animal you can use the same basic information for the others. Nice level top line, Shoulder had decent slope of at least 45 degree angle; slope of the pastern should be the same. Neck ties smoothly into shoulder. Healthy well shaped feet evenly distributing weight throughout the animal. Straight legs and well placed wide stance indicated room for muscle and growth. Wider at the bottom rather than wider at the top is desirable. Nice angle of the hip, rump should be gently sloping. Straight tail and head should be well hinged to the neck. That is a very very basic description of conformation for any livestock. I was have been taught that when looking at an animal, to point out it's good qualities first, and that is what the animal is placed on, not it's down falls. Good question you guys are keeping me on my feet today.

they are very good in endurance riding (akhal tekes are actually a cross with arabians, the arabian pre dates just about all horses/ponies). ive known several in the endurance field, look at the aerc website. ive also known them to be crossed with tb's and have done very well in show jumping or cross country. i have pure bred arabians myself, i do alot of pedigree research and run into alot of groups with akhal's that i could direct you to...

From what I understand they are good for endurance riding.
There are not many here in our area and I do not know anyone who owns one.
I have seen pictures and they are beautiful and regal looking horses.
