I hit on a radio station the other day and thought they were speaking Russian. My girlfriend said "No, that's Portuguese". Then I heard the DJ saying "blah, blah, blah Portguese, blah, blah, Portuguese" so as usual she was right

You are absolutely and - almost - right!

POLISH is extremely similar to PORTUGUESE (from Portugal, not from BRAZIL)

Russian is much softer than Polish, which has a lot of "sh" "ch" and so on! In almost every polish word there is at least one "sh" sound!

I know what you mean. I speak Portuguese and have heard before that to people who don't, it sounds slavic. We have a LOT of polish, czech and latvian people in the town I live, and I often have to do a double take to make sure they're not speaking portuguese when I overhear their conversations.

I don't think so, because the languages stem from different origins. Portuguese is likely a romance language similar to Spanish, Russian is a Germanic language similar to Norwegian. Russian has a lot of 'thicker', throatier sounds in it than Portuguese.

Well even though it is Portugese, it sounds like Russian b/c the Portuguese language is derived from France, Russia, and Italy. So it's ok to think it was Russian.

I understand you. When you don't know the language... They all sound the same as you don't know what they are saying. But sadly, no, Russian doesn't sound at all like any Romance Language.

God bless you

That means you don't know jack about languages, their cadences, origins, pronounciation patterns and their tones.

PS.

Ms. J is, like you, entirely clueless.
