The Marine Corps trains equally (except differences in terrain) at both recruit depots, but the Parris Island also has Women Marines, 4th Battalion. I went to San Diego, and every Thursday was a graduation. You could smell a woman hundreds of yards away, it was such a tease.
Boot camp was a lot of fun. The first thing to learn is that your ego will only be your enemy. You function as a unit, not as an individual. You cannot even say "I," you have to say "this recruit" since there is no "I" in team. If you say "I" the DIs (Drill Instructors) will poke you in the eyes and say, "THESE are your eyes!!!"
You will learn how to shoot a man, I mean "body target," from 500 meters away. Yes, that's right, 5 football fields.
You will graduate boot camp a lean and deadly fighting machine that does not quit.
When you graduate, you will feel like the most invincible man on earth. Women will be drawn to your glowing pride and self confidence, Army soldiers (Aren't Real Marines Yet) will always feel inferior professionally, and to top it off all of their women soldiers want you (as well as the other branches).
Quoting their new slogan, "The Change Is Forever."
Very true.
Edited. Accidentally said 5th BN, meant 4th BN. Thanks for the correction SgtDTBrown. Oorah

MCRD San Diego (CA) and MCRD Parris Island (SC) train in almost exactly the same way . The biggest differences I ever heard about was in Diego we had mountains to deal with and in PI they had the swamps. That and laundry (Diego we scrubbed our own outside with a brush and at PI they had them sent to the laundry). However that was back in '88. Biggest distraction in Diego was the airport being right next to the base....seeing all those planes going somewhere and your stuck at MCRD. Yes our mascot is a bulldog (english bulldog to be precise). You probably won't get a choice in the matter of which recruit depot you go to, it's usually decided by where you sign up at. Unless your parent(s) was a marine or you have some pull. First day going to the pits really sucked, by the end we were looking forward to it. I both loved and hated it. I truly miss my brother marines. Just remember that they will try to break you down and make you quit. Stay motivated and you'll do ok. Good luck and Semper Fi.

Finish high school, join the Navy! The Marines will turn you into a robotic killing machine... which is great, if you're in the right mood, I guess.
May sure you watch the first half of Full Metal Jacket the night before you ship out.

perhaps you're able to no longer flow to the two... perhaps being so stressful to compliment is an illustration...:) Hehe, merely kidding! i could flow to California by using fact they make a soup noted as a "newport coastline seafood soup" and its somewhat solid so as that they deserve some credit for that. **even with the undeniable fact that i think of you will get that soup everywhere cuz I had it in long island as quickly as... Hmmm... perhaps you're able to flow to Florida then... Or stay the place you're...? it somewhat is amazingly a stressful one!!! **Gooooood Luuuuuck :)

where you go is entirely dependant on which side of the Missippi river you live on.. if you live on the East Coast.. you go to Parris island(or if you are female) if you live on the other side.. you go to San Diego.

www.usmcgradsandiego.org tells you everything you need to know about bootcamp. There is even a training matrix that tells you every thing you do through bootcamp.
