even though I put orange juice and peel, the smell is still there. I don't want to use vanilla essence.

Why would there be a raw egg taste? It should be gone once the cake is baked.

I think Almond powder would be too potent. I would try a little Agave Nectar sweetner. It is healthier than sugar or honey and tastes very sweet.
