I heard if you shave your mustache too much, it will gradually become hard and spiky. Is this true?

That's true. But if it's a moustache you're talking about, then you have to understand the hair-structure around that area. it's generally thicker than normal body hairs. I mean if you are a male. Waxing off will not be advisable then as it's very difficult to remove thick hairs. Even if you manage, you may end up injuring yourself, as in bleeding may occur or if not done properly, you'll get in-grown hair which may cause infection. Shaving will be more appropriate. But if you are a female, your hair-structure on your upper-lip will most likely be softer and thinner. The more traditional way of hair-removal in ancient China will be threading but that takes a very skilled person to do it and is time-consuming. There are cold-wax available for facial-hair removal at your local drug-stores and they are inexpensive and easy to use. After each waxing, remember to moisturise that area with aloe vera to soothe the red spots. Hairs will re-appear in every few weeks and will be finner gradually.

No the myth that hair grows back thicker and darker is just that, a myth . . . the problem is nature seems to reinforce it a little.
For example . . . if you are a girl and have some light blond hairs on your upper lip and you shave them when they grow back they will intially be a darker color. The reason is that when your hair is exposed to the sun it gets bleached and becomes lighter, the regrown hair has not yet had enough sun exposure to and appears to be thicker because of the darker color.
