i want to connect a vcr to my tv. it's a symphonic st4813 tv (about 6-8 years old), and it only has one antenna connection thing in the back. if i want to connect a vcr to the tv to record something ON tv, is there some sort of adaptor i need to buy? i've already checked the manual for the tv, and it says nothing about connecting the tv to a vcr/dvd player. only connecting it to the antenna in the house. thanks.

You can't send a signal from the TV to the VCR to record. So you must use the tuner built into the VCR or the cable/sat box if you have one.

If you are only using an antenna or cable without the box.
Make sure that the cable coming out of the wall or antenna feeds into the VCR input then from the VCR output to the TV input.
Then you must program the tuner in the VCR.(This should be done in the menu of the VCR) Once the tuner is programmed you change the channel ON THE VCR to the channel you want to record. Either press record when you want to record and stop when it's over or program the VCR to start recording and stop recording ahead of time. Once you know you are recording you can hit the TV/VCR button to stop it feeding to the TV and then change channel on the TV if you want to watch something else while you are recording your program.

If you are using a cable box or satellite receiver
Make sure the cable coming out of the wall goes into the cab/sat box input then from the output to the VCR input, and then from the VCR output to the TV input. You will have to set the channel you want to record on the box, set the VCR to Channel 3 or 4 (whichever the box is set to on the back) then you can press record when ready.

Good Luck.

Jeff Steel is correct, except that the VCR won't have to be on whenever you want to just watch TV. They are designed to pass the antenna signal through when not being used.

Incidentally, it is a common mistake to think that there must be a connection of some kind to the TV in order to record off the air. If you can set up the recording without viewing something on a TV screen (like just pressing the channel selection and REC buttons), you don't need a TV at all. The VCR contains all of the electronics necessary to record off the air; the TV is only needed for the VCR's informational displays, when required by the user.

You can do this all you have to do is get a vcr with 2 antenna jacks, one imput and one out put. Connect the antenna from the wall to the input of the vcr. then have a coaxial cable(the antenna cable) from the output of the vcr to the tv. The vcr should scan for channels and you'll be able to put a tape in and record! good luck!

I went online and found your owners manual (http://www.symphonic.us/pdf/om/ST4813.pdf) and while it does not actually provide a VCR hookup, use the example they provide for the CATV option. so your signal (antenna) will feed into the VCR and from there into your TV. With this kind of setup the VCR will have to be powered "on" anytime you will want to watch TV. So you will probably want to set the clock so the thing doesn't blink 12:00 at you forever. Good luck!

It' s all there, you only need RF antenna wires.....

Your antenna/cable line connects to your VCR's "Ant IN" or "ANT" or "In from ANT" connector on the back

Your TV wire connects from your TV's "Ant" or "ANT IN" to the VCR's "ANT OUT" or "OUT TO TV" or "TV" connector...

NOTICE your connections between 2 machines is always OUT to IN , never IN to IN or OUT to OUT.....ALWAYS OUT TO IN....

i anticipate that the scart connector is for outdoors factors in undemanding words and no connection is crucial for the video cassettes. subsequently in basic terms connect the DVD participant via way of cable with a scart plug at each and each end, then as quickly as you play a DVD the participant might desire to in the present day substitute the television to the video channel and you will then be waiting to computer screen your DVDs
