Americans as a whole have never opposed, not to speak of defaming the scientologists or its founder exponent L.Ron Hubbard. Some individuals have been taking extreme views in favour of Scientology as supporters and some have been opposing with bitter condemnation. I think, both are right in holding their own views in the manner they like. Is is all an exchange of individual opinions. Hence, it is no threat to any one.

I study people. I have taken up an interest in Scientology, only because of he effect it has on people.
People who follow it swear by it and say that there is no other religion that can do what Scientology does for you.
People who don't follow Scientology, are either neutral (very few) or very much against it.
Because of this it fascinates me. To answer your question, I don't think the reason most Americans oppose Scientology is because they think it is a threat to Christianity, people have heard things on the TV, and in the news that focus on the negative. People also look with suspicion at things that are different from what they know. A lot of people also believe Scientology is a cult. This whole subject (of how people relate to each other based on religion) is interesting.

Scientology a threat? No. Never has been. Not against any religion, because though in the U.S. it is easy to get licensing to form a religious group "church", in the U.K.(if I recall), Canada, and other countries Scientology is not recognized as a religion or a church. But they thrive here in US because they have tax exempt status.
The "religion" of Scientology is a sad road for those who believe in it, it is indeed a cult, in all definitions. Whereas the Christian faith is not a cult, nor does it have a cult like mentality. So yet another distinct difference between the two.
One is a sham, scam that has hurt many families due to its cultism, the other is a real religion.

What a large generality ! What Americans are you referring to?
The yapping media ? TV?
These are all controlled sources.
Controlled by a few with vested interests trying to manipulate,
the opinions of others through creating alarm , "formidable threats" and contraversy.
And they don't only do this to religions my friend.
The formidable threat to any religion is always covert and hidden.
Consider this:
"A society is capable of surviving for thousands of years unless it is attacked from within or without by hostile forces. where such an attack occurs, the primary targets are it's religious and national gods and heroes,it's potential of leadership and the self respect and integrity of it's members.
If you look around you , you will find countless examples of these points. They scream at us every day from the newspapers and TV.
Probably the most critical point of attack on a culture is it's religious experience. Where one can destroy or undermine religious institutions then the entire fabiric of the society can be quickly subverted or brought to ruin.
For the last hundred years or so religion has been beset with relentless attack. You have been told it’s the “opiate of the masses “, that it’s unscientific, that it is primitive, in short , that it is a delusion.
The source of this kind of attack is always covert and hidden. It is promoted by a few who have a vested interest in a slave society.
Unfortunately these few rely on creating fear and insecurity in others
to forward and promote their enemy propaganda. These others feel correctly they have to defend themselves from an attack, but because the real enemy is hidden, they can be manipulated to attack what they really should be defending as they cannot see the real enemy.
The key here is that underneath all these attacks on organised religion there is one fundemental target:
The spirituality of man, your own basic spiritual nature, self respect and peace of mind."
And THAT is a direct quote from L.Ron Hubbard the founder of the Scientology religion.
By all means defend your religion, but don't turn on our allies in doing so.

1. Not just Americans. It is considered a dangerous sect in Spain.
2. It is not at all a threat to Christianity.
3. It is a threat to gullible people. Many have lost their fortunes to that movement, being taken in bit by bit, and regret it later, but can't do anything about it.
So the opposition to it is to the financial scam.
(I won't be "open-minded" about this one. I already checked it out with an open mind and was able to see first hand the potential for harm).

Islam is a political doctrine, stitched alongside with bits and products of oftentimes going on seventh century religions to make it look holy. it relatively is why Muhammed in straightforward terms had approximately a hundred and fifty followers till he all started conquering lands and slaughtering innocents. He have been given some protection stress help and Islam grew to alter into the ''one genuine faith'' very nearly in one day. To make issues extra united for the quickly-to-come armies, the Quran seperates human beings into 2 communities; Muslims and ''infidels.'' in case you study it, you will see that Muslims at the instant are not in straightforward terms allowed, yet inspired to handle infidels as decrease than human. Islam is an ingenius political doctrine, and that i hate to declare it, yet I might desire to tip my hat to Muhammed for fooling lots of for see you later with it. Afterall, he nevertheless regulations the middle East with an iron fist from the grave. Peace, Drew

I'm not Christian and I'm still not a fan. To be honest, people fear what they don't know about, and Scientology is so secretive, its bound to get feared. In addition, you hear about all these Scientology murder stories and brainwashings or whatever. They're possibly exagerated stories or completely made up, but its still scary. If Scientology really wanted to be recognized, they should come clean with their methods and their practices, I have a feeling alot of non-celebrety members join just to say, "Yeah, so I sat next to John Trivolta in church today. Im such a G."

It is a bogus cult made up by a cartoonist and fiction writer. He took some parts of the Vedas and put his own twist on them. A guru or spiritual leader has to follow in a disciplic succession from God or is Pure Representative. To start a religion is a cult. Most religions of today are cults because they do not follow the original teachings of Christ, Mohamed, Buddha, etc.

Scientology is a false religion based on "self."
No, it is not a formidable threat to Jesus' church. Not even the Gates of Hell are a threat to Christianity.

A threat? Pleeeeease! NOTHING is a threat to Christianity because God's word stands forever. And Christ can't be taken away from a person's heart and soul. That's what differentiates Christianity from all other religions.
Scientology is a sham. It seeks the money from it's sheep. There is no spiritual development coming from Scientology.
