There are varous products ranging from alarms to certain sprays that cats find offensive.I would try the alarms. They wont hurt your cats. There may be more stuff too.I just have one cat who gets on the counter and she is so funny when she does that we just let her.Good Luck, and remember, dont leave anything out that you dont want eaten, messed with or breakable,or that would be harmful to your cats.Again I say good luck!!!!!!

Cats are curious creatures who also like to be up high. That makes kitchen counters a problem. People try all sorts of things and you got some suggestions before I started typing. You can buy yourself a lot of peace of mind by picking up a package of Clorox or Lysol wipes at the grocery store. Chances are, even if you manage to make the cat stay off the counters when you are home, it is going to sneak up there when you aren't. They are clever creatures.

This way, before you start preparing food, you can just take one of those wipes and disinfect the counter. I usually do that anyway, what with all the scares about e coli and those other exotic diseases that are going around today. Heaven knows, we take the bag from the grocery store and sit it on the counter. Who knows where that bag was last and what might be on it.

Hope I helped some.

Unless the tin foil or tape works, you really cannot keep the cats off of your counters. I just don't leave anything on them that I don't want broken, or will hurt the cats.

I too wipe off my counters before I start cooking.

But be careful what you use to clean the counters - remember, traces of liquid bleach (maybe not the wipes) can remain and your cat might get a trace of it on their paws. AND then they or you, after touching it, could get some onto your clothes etc... You'd be surprised where those little beach spots will show up!

My mom used to pour bleach onto her counters, and yes it did sterilize them, but then she'd get bleach spots on her blouse, on the rugs, etc... surprise!

Make sure you have a lot of great toys for cats on the floor! Some cats are extremely playful and they need something to do or they'll get into something you don't want them to get into. If that doesn't work, you might want to take off anything important off the counter. :/

I've heard putting double stick tape on furniture will prevent cats from scratching because of they don't like the sticky. maybe put double stick tape on an old placemat or something and set them up there until he/she gets the idea that up there is not a fun place to be.

My mother-in-law has plastic mats that she puts on her furniture, like a office chair mat. The underside as little pokey nubs on them and the cats hate them. Putting those on your counters may help too (but if your cats are smart enough, they will knock them to the floor!)

Just put tinfoil on the counters. They will jump up on it and it will scare them. You won't even have to do it everyday. Just every once in a while, because they will try and test it.

Lay tinfoil in the counters. They will only do it once, my cats did.
