Just wondering how much the food really matters at a wedding reception. My fiance wants to spend more than I do in this area and I'm just looking for advice.

Nope...a wedding is basically just a big party. People usually don't rember things like food.

They will remember if you get really drunk and take off all your clothes screaming, "I just love midgets!!! I really love midgets!!!"

Other than that, people probably won't remember much other than having a good time...

Roast beef, baked chicken, salmon, potatoes/rice, veggies, salad and dessert of choice.
That is pretty much standard wedding food. Give people a choice of meat and have a vegetarian option for at least 5 people.
Unless you are a family of chefs or have some kind of family tradition, I wouldn't go too crazy on the food.
I will say to have a sampling of the menu before the wedding day to make sure it is what you want.
You can also have a late night buffet of any fancier appetizers you might want to have people remember about. Nobody loves food more than after they have had a few drinks.

Yes and no. It doesn't matter how expensive the food is if its bad. Your guest wont know you spent 50 dollars a plate on bad food or 10 dollars a plate on bad food they will just remember it as bad food. Shop around, do a lot of tasting, get a lot of different menu ideas be open about what you serve. Remember expensive doesn't mean better. When my brother married for the second time it was a morning wedding, it was extremely simple, coffee, juice, and a variety of muffins made by my mother, myself and the brides mother and grandmother. Your basic Continental breakfast. The "wedding cake" was a huge thing of Cinnamon rolls decorated like a wedding cake. It was fantastic and everyone loved the novelty of it.

I remember 2 weddings where the food was horrible...
I remember 1 wedding where the food was FANTASTIC...
The rest (and that's ALOT of weddings over about 20 years) I couldn't even tell you what food they did or didn't have.
So, I'd say at least 90% of the weddings I've been to, I don't remember the food.

People will remember if it is really bad or if you run out early but if nothing terrible happens most people eat without thinking about it and few will remember what was served anyway. Spend less here and put the savings toward somthing else. Please tell you fiance that the wedding is only one day and you have your new lives to spend the money on now. Congratulations and Best wishes

Maybe it would be good to ask your guests what they would like to eat at the reception when you send out your invitations. Maybe you could send a card with different food choices of what they would like to eat at the reception and they can check off which foods they would like to eat and have them send the card back to you and you can determine what foods to have at your reception. Don't stress over what food to have focus more on the wedding and the man you want to spend the rest of your life with. That's what matters most. God bless. Hope everything works out for you.

well... i just went to a wedding and the food ran out and what food there was...was horrible.

if you want to save money, here's my advice:
1. Make sure that the caterer is a good one and have them make recommendations on less expensive entrees - like a great pasta dish vs. having steak or fish. Having a fantastic pasta mixed with salmon is great or something like that saves a ton of money.
2. go heavy on the apps and get things that are vegetarian or bready - they fill people up.

i am getting married and spending way too much money. the whole wedding thing has gotten a little out of control. weddings were supposed to help get a couple get started on their new life together. now couples are starting off their new lives together in debt do to crazy wedding costs.

Sure they will, it is an important part of your day people will either talk about how good it is or how bad it is, it kinda sets the tone for the whole day you can have a beautiful wedding, fairytale wedding but if you bomb out with the food it will put a whole new twist on peoples enjoyment factor. It is a social gathering and as with any social gathering people want food, they look forward to it and it should be satisfying for both the married couple on their big MEMORABLE DAY as well as the people sharing that big day with you.

I don't think most of your guests will remember to food--unless something terrible or unusual happens with it. However, I do urge you to consider serving quality food to your guests. The people attending your wedding at the people who love and care about you. You would want them to enjoy your wedding, right? Well, if you don't know already, food is a big part of the celebrations.

the guest to remember the food, has to be out of this world! if you give them a lobster....still there will be people who dont like lobsters! so just get a good price on the menu and worry about your honey moon destination. after all.. you and her are the ones that would remember the wedding the most.
For me i served two kids of dishes, because it was a bi cultural wedding. Just make sure that there is enough food for everyone to eat..then have fun!
congrats and cheers!

Spend as much as you can afford on food, if the food is really bad believe me people will talk about it for years and years to come, they will tell all their friends getting married "oooo remember that awful food we had at A and B's wedding?" so I would say give them decent food.
