I am getting married and having my reception in a barn on Martha's Vineyard next summer. I am looking for some clever ideas for Table Cards... I was thinking of writing peoples names on shells (might be too beachy for a barn); or writing names on beach stones. Would love any cleaver ideas of things that people have seen that might work.

I think you are right with the shells being too beachy for a barn. Try attaching cards to mini watering cans (they sell them at Arts & Crafts stores like Michaels). You could also try finding little die-cast tractors to put them on.

At a stopre like michaels or Joannes.. or any store that sells miniatures.. you could buy the tiny bales of hay and use those as the base to create a place card.

You could also make place card holders out of hotwheels.. the little miature cars.. you can buy the miniature tractors... and then decrate them with little streamers off the back with a mini just married sign...

a miniature cowboy boot embossed with your initials as the base for the place cards... or a cowboy hat...

Since animals are often in a barn and if you have a great sense of humor you could use little cows or horses... hahah

Hope that helps.. if you need any help making them email me.. I do this stuff all the time :)

Hugs

I have found the marthastewart.com website to be invaluable for great wedding ideas. You also might want to try it for your tablecards. I would imagine that there is something there that will work well for you with your "barn" theme. Good luck and have fun!
By the way, you also might enjoy searching through entertainment.ivillage.com and similar sites for weddings.
Just an idea...You can even consider attaching the name cards to the backs of the chairs with raffia or ribbons tied together with small flowers, (which was recently done for a bridal luncheon that I attended). Everyone loved the idea and it looked great!

Use apples with stalk still attached, you could then cut out a leaf shape from green card and write the guests names on the leaves. Then attach the leaves to the stalks of the apples and put one at each place setting. Use nice glittery silver pens to write the names.

Your ushers would have a seating card and be able to tell each guest as they enter the reception what table they will be sitting at.

When my cousin got married, they took pictures of their parents as brides and grooms, made them into photo "christmas" cards, if you will, then wrote the name of the table on the photo, and placed one at each table. When the guests entered the hall, they found similar photo cards with their name and the table name on it. You knew which table you were assigned to, but you chose your own seat at the appropriate table. It was neat to see the old wedding photos of my aunt and uncle. You could always do photos of you and your intended.

I think it would be wonderful to do a centerpiece with a large, clear glass vase filled with shells and a white pillar candle. This a very nice and elegant touch. Plain placecards are more stately. Be careful it doesn't end up tooo hokey...

Use pine cones, or something country with ribbon or sticks tied together. Do a very country thing and let em sit where they want and don't do the place setting thing.

Have fun!

Purchase mini pails like these:

Fill them with hay and then attach the name card to the handle using brown string. You can also find them at any local craft store. They are called galvanized buckets or pails.
