Nope, they are not afraid to fight shiites, if they are sunni, and they are not afraid to fight sunnis, if they are shiite. they wont go into their own areas and fight their own people, they only want to kill people of their rival religious faction. Other than that, they are cowards, the lot of them. Take it from someone who has been there, they are not a heroic people, they have no belief system in government and are lousy soldiers. I did my time in iraq, and am telling you the truth, cowards.

No. What they tell our soldiers is that as soon as we leave they will quit. They do not know who or exactly what they are fighting for. If they knew what the outcome would be, that they would not be victims if the outcome might change, then they would be better motivated. Right now the majority of Iraqis want us to leave, so it is probably true that those who work with us may well be punished for doing so.

Think of it this way, if you are seen working with Americans or with the reformed Iraqi army, you and your family will be brutally tortured and eventuall killed. The terrorists are barbarians even to their own people. Yes, they are afraid, but more for their families rather than themselves.

no, they train well and are excellent and brave people.

Of course it takes time to train supervisors, Sgts, and Lts and captains and the such. We did away with all of thier army and have to start from scratch.

Also with out army there is already a unit, trained and working together for years, so when a new recruit joins, he is joining a trained force.

With thiers, often they create a totally new group that has no seasoned people.

What is their incentive? Low pay, mafia like militias that know where you and your family live, getting shot at by fellow citizens, having to shoot fellow citizens, IEDs going off all around you, many fellow soldiers are actually insurgents, ect. I'm surprised the AWOL rate is only 50% with those conditions. I really don't blame them.

Yes and I'm not to sure that they are fighting for the right reasons. Too many different religious factions are calling the shots. The police are corrupt.
