Having a beard means nothing. The Taliban in Afghanistan forced all men to have beards, did that make them all good people? Did it bring them closer to God? ...

I do not know of any religion that tells a man that, however, in the OLD Testament a man under a Nazerite vow could not let a razor touch their head. Numbers 6 5 All the days of the vow of his seperation shall no razor come upon his head. Verse 2 of chapter 6 in the book of Numbers it states very clearly and I will quote
" When either a man or woman - shall separate themselves to vow a vow of a Nazarite, to separate themselves unto the LORD:"...

I assume you are referring to the following Old Testament law:
Leviticus 19:27
Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard.
I assume the argument would be made that following God's will would bring one closer to Him.

because in some religions "god" has a beard so if they look more like him they are closer to him I would guess
