Sounds like crap to me. In the world I live in you pay your fine, AND still get the points too.

urban legend ( would not even rate it as that, since I have never heard of it and I was in law enforcement for years)
you can see if the officer ( in some states) or the judge in other states will allow you to take traffic school instead.
But you paying the fine, and points are not related, once you plead guilty ( by sending in the ticket with the fine) you have plead guilty and it is reported as such. Period, judge rules on it, and the check is applied to the fine, if there is extra, you will be lucky if they send it back, but just keep it, and wait for you to ask for it back

Yes and no, It was a fact when every state was on different systems and had no computer link to one another. If you were from out of state, in some states (missouri for sure) you could send extra money in toward your fine. The state would pay your fine and send you a check for the extra. If you did not cash that check the case never closed. and was not reported to insurance companies, or your state. I am sure they have changed systems now since law enforcment has met the computer age.

I'm sorry to tell you it's a myth.
You go to court pay the fine, then get to driving classes through the court, and Finishing the course takes the most recent points off your license

Myth, the only way you can drop points is by talking with the prosecutor and payinga fine, unless its happened more than once, depending on the state. alo some state offer point reduction when you take a curse for 4-8 hours.

no truth to it. they will defintely figure it's not their problem you didn't cash the check. you will get points against you, not to mention they may decide to pocket the $10. i overpaid a fine and didn't notice it til months later and never have seen the amount i overpaid. (it wasn't much but it still rubbed me the wrong way!)

I think they would cash the cheque and send you back your ten bucks. (Or worse, they may send you a notice saying you sent them the incorrect amount and will consider the fine unpaid and suspend your licence.)
If you try it and it works let me know.
