Yes dogs suffer from the cold. Dogs often die as a result of being left out in the cold. They also get frost bite and loose parts of their body!Think about it they do not have antifreeze in their blood.
A dogs tolerance for the cold is related to thee breed, th type of dog. Of course a dog with more hair can stand the cold better than say a Jack Russel who has short thin hair. A large dog can tolerate the cold better than a small dog. A dog that is in the house part of the time and out part of the time will have less ability to tolerate the cold because his body will be more acclimated to the warm indoors and he will NOT get a full winter coat.
Most states have laws governing keeping dogs outside. Most states require that adequate shelter, food and water be provided so the dogs life is not in danger.
If you think someone is endangering the life of a dog by putting it outside in bad weather call your local dog warden. Complain ot you local police. Call the Humane society. All these places should be able to help you get adequate care for this dog. I urge you to to delay . If you know of a dog put out in bad weather it may be suffering terribly.

Dogs began as wild animals and didn't have the comfort of the foot of their owners bed to go to sleep on, therefore, they will not die if left outside in normal conditions. Just make sure that they have water adn regular feeding times and a kennel to keep it out of the elements (just as they would have used a cave or tree in the wild) with blankets if it is cold (ok, so they didn't have blankets back then either, but, we have to spoil our dogs every now and then!)

I have two large dogs and they shiver when it is cold outside. Sure, they are covered in fur but that can't keep them much warmer then humans wearing clothes. I'm am sure that it would have to be extremely cold out for a dog to actually die...depending on the size of the dog.

Yes animals can die from exposure to extreme weather both from heat and cold.If there are weather advisories out for people there is a good chance that your pet will be at risk as well.A shelter will provide some protection from the wind chill. If your pet is outside in a shelter make sure you check that its' water is not frozen and that its' food is dry. Also check its' paws for damage that is caused by salt on the bottom of its' feet. I would bring an animal inside just to be sure.

Of course they can die from hypothermia, just like any other warm-blooded creature. Small dogs are particularly sensitive to cold and need to be kept warm when they're outside.
My German shepherd hates the cold and snow. Whenever the temperature drops below freezing and I take her outside, she always turns around and gives me a dirty look. I guess she figures it's my fault somehow.

My dog has a dog house with a lamp I turn on when it is real cold . He is a Lab cross and likes cold over the heat. I also have a shepherd heeler cross that stays out side with him.
I am in the process of building a bigger and better insulated doghouse for them to share.

First of all, ANY dog can freeze to death if given the right circumstances. It depends very much on where you are living and what kind of dog you have. My parents' husky enjoys a good snow snorm and will curl right up in a snow drift for a little snooze.
On the other hand, my Dalmatian starts to shake like a leaf and hold her paws in the air if she's outside in the winter for more than 15 minutes. For long walks, she needs to have a coat AND boots.

YES! Like any other living thing, a dog needs the proper shelter in the heat or cold.

Well yes if you leave them out for a long period of time and thier small, and if your asking if you can leave your dog out over night i wouldnt cause it's too mean.I dont think a big dog would die, i think it would just be very cold,so yeah you could leave the dog out but i am not sure how long your talking about.

Of course they can die. They are warm-blooded. My dogs have a heated doghouse, it's usually warmer in there than it is in MY house! I have a thermometer in the doghouse that sends a temp reading to the clock/thermometer in my living room, so i can be sure they aren't cold. And there is a camera in there, too. Just so I know who keeps chewing up their bed!
