I am searching for Porsche boxsters, and some of you probably already saw my other question about the topic.

This time, i am wondering how i should go through purchasing a car online (ebaymotors) that is too far away for me to personally inspect. I am going to hire 2 separate maintenance people to inspect it there and test drive it. Clean carfax too. After that, is it safe to say that the car is reliable?

i own a repair shop, and i have inspected a few for people far away ,,and make sure you can trust the people who are doing the inspection for you ,,its a real risky business buying one from far off,,if they miss an important detail this means your stuck with the car regardless of the condition, and let me tell you this,, car-fax only shows what has been turned in,,if the owner of the car never turned in any small accidents they wont be listed on car fax,,i have a truck that was totaled out,and it came back clean from car-fax,,so you see it can deceive you,,good luck with it,i hope this help,s.,,have a good x-mas.

I just heard that carfax is not that reliable. If the car has been damaged and the damaged was fixed without insurance being involved, and a lot of the flooded cars have been pushed through without ins. claims, it won't show up. so, that makes the inspection that more important. Have a reliable dealer mechanic check it out and put it on their analyzer. You can't be too careful. They need to check for anything related to water, any rust or odors. I saw a news program about how they can make them look so good they can fool most people. i just thopught you should know that. Some places insure their carfax program, so that might be an option. Good luck.

Risk is definitely less if you can hire reliable inspectors to look over the car. However, there's always some risk. You will have to weigh whether the savings is worth it. Also, how will you get the car to where you are?

Well, if I was going to spend that much on a car ,I would personally go and look at it as well as have your mechanics and appraisers there
