You are using such a simplistic definition of "fearing" to make your claim....
Fearing doesn't just mean a feeling... it is also an action... of submission... obediance and respect....
God says in the bible that we should submit to ordered authority...
and if you want some simplistic answer... If God IS real (he is) then the fact would be he is able to do all things... and some of those things would seem pretty "frightening" or make you fearful.....
Don't know about you, but If I saw the waters turn to blood and all the 1st born sons die... if I saw some of the apocalypse and the seals being broken.. Id be scared... scared for you and all other non believers

It is hard to figure why, since all gods are imaginary, anyone would invent a make-believe god that is, fundamentally, a SOB. It can only be because the high priests of every god need a little extra something to help control and dominate the believers.
My only question is; why did you drag the Flying Spaghetti Monster into this ugly mess? I don’t recall him whacking off any heads or starting any wars lately.

Ok basically the word fear in terms of fearing God basically means to be aware of him... the fear would come in if you dissobey him such as doing evil sins... thats when fear would come in... If one describes themselves as God fearing, It would mean that they are aware of God... Listen God has many attributes... most people know about his mercy and his forgiveness but God is also all powerful and able to do all things including punishments... If you believe in him and be a righteous person 'Godfearing' then he will be mercyful and forgive you.... Listen... Do you really belive that people can do evil and get away with it? The answer is No... we either get forgiven or get punished ( Have you heard of what goes around comes around? This is no coincidence - this is Gods decree) God is all aware and watching and he has many attributes including anger so this is why we have to be Godfearing.... I hope I shed some light on it!

You think we should fear God because you read, and believe in what man has said, and written. God wants no one to fear him, he wants us to fear no one, not even ourselves, all he wants is for us to have faith in him, and each other, to learn to love him, and each other, God's only mistake was he gave man free will, that's why the world is in such a mess, then we blame him when it goes wrong, and then ask him to out things right, if you take the time, most things that happen in the world are down to us being greedy, the need to have everything, the need for power, the need to kill in God's name, before we blame, or fear God, we should look at the real people that we need to fear, and blame, and to do that just look in a mirror. When we can look at ourselves without fear, hate, or the need to kill then we may start to learn to love this world we live in

"Fearing' doesn't simply mean the fear we have for spiders etc, it means to be in awe of, to realise the enormity of something, or in this this case, someone. If you'd like to have some understanding of what God is really like, rather than see Him as 'religion', perhaps borrow a copy of a New Testament and start by reading the book of Mark. I agree that horrible things have been done in the name of 'religion', but be sure that this isn't God's doing. His love for us is enormous, he cries when we hurt. Don't judge God by the actions of 'God-fearing men' you know. He wants us to know Him, come to Him, and not be afraid of Him.

I have no answer for you. I am sure many people will tell you because the fear that God instills in us "makes us" do the right thing, or "read the Bible to see what happens when God is angry". That makes no sense to me. Does not God want what we want? Does not God know what is best? If you agree, then we will obey God because it is what is best for US, not out of fear.

You should fear God because he is capable of making anything happen. In response to fearing God, you should worship and follow him to avoid being punished in the hereafter.

Good grief!
A guy dies and finds himself at the Pearly Gates. Saint Peter says 'Come on in'. As they pass two huge doors, the sound of merrymaking is clearly heard. ' They're the Methodists' says saint Pete, They then pass a second set of doors and the sound of merrymaking is even louder. 'They're the Baptists' says St. Pete. 'Now, creep past these next doors', he adds, 'they're the Catholics, they think they're the only ones up here'.

God is good, He is Holy, and we should all worship Him, Love Him, and Obey Him. Those who are not His children should fear Him(as in being afraid), and this is why. When the wicked are judged on the day of the Lord, here is their fate: God will - destroy their bodies; God will - destroy the breath of life that God gave to them; and God will - destroy the very memory of them and their evil works. Man, and angels can only kill the body, they can never destroy it, or anything else.

Good question. I think that in the Bible, the original language fear ment more awesome respect for the Almighty. However, in old Testament God was certainly a bully. So religious people may indeed fear God after getting their bums kicked a few times.
Said my mother, in Jest, of my brother and I:
"I always wanted you to mind me out of love and respect, but failing that, stark raving fear will have to do!"
She was wonderful, a friend and traffic warden, judge and jury all in one.
Charles "That Cheeky Lad"
P.S. I like the line I saw somewhere "God is coming back, and boy, is she a*rsed"
