And you are crazy about someone, when you change states, and don't contact that person for days, do you hate them? are you suddenly dissinterested? Or do you just need time to yourself? (thanks again!)

No, it doesn't mean you hate or are disinterested in the person. It simply means you need some time to yourself. The reasons behind wanting to be alone can vary from peson to person and episode to episode.
Myself, I tend to withdraw when I have had a busy period and feel the need to "recharge". Other times I hide away because I am feeling paranoid, angry, confused, tired, depressed, you name it!
It may be just as hard for you to understand as it is for him to explain, so don't push (too much)!
The best thing you can do is to let the person know you may/may not understand but are there for them no matter what. Let them know that you are concerned but respect that they need some time on their own. Tell them to call if they need you, otherwise you will "check-in" in a day or two.
Also, talk to them when they are not in a depressed/manic state and ask what they want and need you to do (they may not want you to leave them alone but to drag them out into life, so to speak)!

Having a relationship with someone who is bi-polar can be hard but like anything else, it can also be very rewarding.

I would say you just need to have time to yourself. Just because your're dating doesn't mean that the person has to occupy every moment of your life.

for me it generally mean I am depressed or really stressed - my feelings do not change - if you are speaking of someone you are dating do not freak...try calling a couple times (they may not answer because of no energy) if you don't hear anything in a couple of days go check on them...
