What's wrong with the Vietnamese people? Nothing, however you might want to re-examine your assumptions.

The Vietnamese economy is growing at 7-8% annually and the government has done a good job promoting stability and a business friendly evironment. For sure the local media and entertainment industry will develop and you will be seeing more Vietnamese faces on TV and print. Give it a few more years and you'll be hearing about Vietnamese celebrities.

I would also like to mention that Vietnamese actresses and models are hot :p.

Part of the reason may be the Vietnamese shift to a market economy in 1986. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinema_of_Vietnam .

On another level, let's look at it this way. There are plenty of German actors who are well known in Germany, such as Franka Potente, Herbert Grönemeyer, Benno Fürmann, Joachim Król, Jürgen Prochnow, Moritz Bleibtreu, Heino Ferch, Herbert Knaup, Nina Petri, Sebastian Schipper, Lars Rudolph, Maria Schrader and Ludger Pistor. But how many of them are *internationally* known? Franka Potente and perhaps Jürgen Prochnow are the only ones I can think of who have appeared in American-made films. Maybe the situation is similar for Vietnamese actors.

It's true that there are disgraces to all cultures, but when you're a race other than white, your reputation is much more fragile. How many vietnamese celebrities can you name? Probably not many. So when one person is representing a culture in the public eye, it is difficult to make a well rounded impression on society. I agree, Tila Tequila is ridiculous.

The Japanese have technology and an animation industry that caters to the world and is popular. The Chinese make popular martial arts movies.Maybe with time some aspect of Vietnam (movies, song etc) will find its place in the world.Remember Manga wasnt popular in America 15-20 years ago. It has grown in popularity.
