Yes! The pay and retirement at an early age is more than you would think. The qualifications to get in are also high. Only about 50% can make it.

There will be no draft. No draft is needed. Most Army National Combat brigades are sitting at the house and could be used if the USA ever got serious about the conflict in Iraq. The US will not invade Iran, I'm sorry but it isn't going to happen. If the US were to invoke a draft it would take years just to prepare training locations for such a mass effort. In case you haven't noticed, many bases have been closed over the past ten years. The remaining bases are largely busting at the seams. Even National Guard camps are being used to train troops for rotations to Iraq and they don't have the space for a bunch of new recruits. I know a bunch of people on the left want a draft so they can burn draft cards and try and live the hippie days from their parents/grand parents but it isn't going to happen.

everyone in the military gets what is called pay whether they enlist or get drafted. i spent 23 years in the military and when i retired i started working i was one step above the janitor and My first pay day was more than made in the military all month and that pay was for one week so you get the ideal how much military pay is. I started at 52 dollars a month and quit with 500 a month

Just because they got drafted doesn't mean they don't get paid! E-1's make about $1200 per month to start, plus full free medical benefits, room and board, and all the enemies if the US they can kill!

Draftees always got paid the same as anybody else.
If there is a draft again, they will get paid again the same as anybody else.
You know, it's not a great deal of money.

Yes, even though you're basically forced to join the military in the draft they can't force you to work without compensation. It isn't a slave draft.

They get paid plenty. Shucks, back in World War One they used to sing "Twenty-one dollars a day once a month."

Of course they'd get paid just not a enlistment bonus...which would probably not happen anymore anyway if there was a draft...which there won't be!
