there were 4 men and 3 were lined up the 4th man put a blindfold on everybody except him there were 5 hats 2 white hats and 3 black hats he put one on everybodys head and he ask the last person what color hat do you have on? he said i dont know and then he ask the second person what color hat do you have on? he said i dont know the he asked the first person what color hat he had on he said I KNOW how does the first person know?

#1 must not see two white hats number #2 and #3 , or he would know his own hat must be black (since there are two white hats). so #1's answer establishes that at least one of the hats on #2 and #3 is black. therefore #2 knows that he and #3 are either both wearing black or one is wearing black and the other white. if he sees that #3 is wearing a white hat, then he would know his own hat had to be black. but #2 instead says he doesnt know what color of hat he is wearing, which means #3's hat is not white and must be black. therefore #3 knows that he is wearing a black hat

ive heard this one before in class. there is another answer to it to. if the fourth man did have a blindfold on then the three other man had black hats on.
