I'm wondering if the medicine made a considerable difference for you because it's possible I should be on such medication.

If you don't mind giving some specific examples of the problems you had and how it helped, that could be very helpful, too. If not, no problem.

I have taken the following for anxiety: Zoloft, xanax, celexa, paxil, klonopin, and zyprexa. They do work (each drug is different - antidepressents, sleep aids, sedatives etc,) BUT (and this is a big BUT) there are side effects. Celexa probably had the least side-effects, but I would go off of everything because I am a writer and I never felt ANYTHING or even motivated to write when I was on the drugs. I would also go off of them and realize that the person I was dating was gross! It is really a subtle change in your mentality but it can be creepy!
You have better alternatives: Hypnosis, acupuncture, exercise & therapy! If you have social anxiety, go to a support group. I don't take any more drugs and I am SOOOOO MUCH HAPPIER!
Drugs cover the underlying issues....deal with what is really going on!

Most Anxiety Disorders respond well to antidepressant therapy, especially the SSRI's like Zoloft, Paxil, and Prozac. These medications have components in them that decrease anxiety without being addicting, unlike the anti-anxiety agents such as Xanax, Valium, and Klonopin which CAN be. Although some folks MAY require both an antidepressant as well as an anti-anxiety agent, a qualified physician will know what is best for you and will monitor your progress. Good luck~~~~you should see a HUGE difference!!
