I would say that the Canadian population is generally divided. Alot of us wish things were even "closer" as crossing the border is becoming more difficult for people, goods and services and there have been some strained relationships between our two countries with regards to areas in N.A.F.T.A such as the softwood lumber dispute that caused a major rift between Canada and the US.
Some others view it as a negative thing as people think we should be more reliant on other countries economically and not so dependent on our "Big Brother" to the south. They feel our Identity is being "threatened" by the Media, Entertainment, Big Business and big Corporations from the States coming up here and instilling the "Capitalistic" ways on us here in Canada.
So, it all depends on WHO you talk to !!!! This debate has gone on for decades !!!! Cheers !

It's clear that we rely on each other...however, the perception is not that clear.

Canadian's have no problem admitting that there is a reliance, while the Americans feel that they "don't need anyone", not realizing that :

Canada is the largest supplier to the US of ; Oil, Natural Gas, Fresh Water, and Wood. .... I wonder how they would survive without those things...

cheers.

I don't mind the close economic ties, providing they do not try and push their right wing, conservative views on us. Canada has many liberties that are not enjoyed in the States, I would like to see them preserved.

U.S. is Canada's biggest trading partner. They buy our products and raise our GDP! How can it be bad?
