Looks like I'm the first doctor here. Anyway, remember when grown-ups asked us, "What do you wanna be when you grow up?" There was not one time that I didn't say I wanted to be a doctor. It was actually asked in my med school interview and it stumped me! To cut the story short, I just wanted to be one, and there was not really any reason behind it.
Anyway, my views changed when I was doing my clerkship and internship. People looked differently at doctors. There was respect when they knew you were one. Aside from that, it feels wonderful to be able to treat a sick person and make him feel better. There's no way you'll not see gratitude in their faces. When you're in the clinics already, you'll just experience the different feeling of being able to see to a patient without help from anyone. The high I felt when I first sent a patient home was undescribable.
I'm a doctor now. I was moonlighting for a while in one of the hospitals in the city and there were days when I was the only doctor in the hospital (it's a pretty small hospital). In instances like this, or maybe when you're already in residency, you'll pray (that is, if you do) that you may have the wisdom to treat a patient to the best of your abilities and knowledge. And to see a patient home, even from the emergency room or from the ward, is bliss.

I'm a medical student, and to me the motivation was just due to personal interest, and it still is. The whole way "life" works is mesmerizing to me, and following things that we take for granted, and examining them on the molecular, cellular, and systemic level is just fascinating. So taking something so complex, and amazing, and being able to examine it and even manipulate it is the biggest reason I am pursuing the career. There are other factors too of course, respect, compassion for humanity, etc, but that is the biggest.

when i was a kid i always said i wanted to be a dr, cause my aunt (who took care about me while my mom worked) couldnt walk cause she had polio when she was younger. I wanted her to walk again so i started thinking that being a dr could help her. Anyway she died when i was 15 of cancer, so my dessire increased; because all the drs that treated her where really cold and unrespectfull. I really wanted to help people to have a life w dignity, respect, not only to heal they diseases. So thats why finally I entered to a med school and im really happy being a dr. U can heal people's body but also give them a better life or help the die with dignity and respect.
