Well I'm a Christian (Catholic) so I'll give a Catholic answer:
First of all, simply being baptized a Christian does not give you an automatic 1-way ticket to heaven. It's a bit more complicated than that.
But we live our lives striving for God's greatness and eternal life with Him in heaven. One reason we look forward to the Second Coming is because at the Final Judgment, all the holy souls will be united in heaven; no one will be unaccounted for. Also, we Catholics believe in the resurrection of the body; the souls who have loved God will be reunited with their glorified bodies, and the souls who rejected God will be reunited with their bodies in a repulsive state. Obviously, we look forward to the former option. ;-)
Hope that helps.

Heaven only starts at the 2nd Coming of Jesus Christ. The Early Church believes that when we die, we are in Abraham's bosom, a nice place to be, it is also called Paradise. But is it heaven. No. That is why we look forward to the 2nd Coming of Jesus Christ. And no, this isn't a rapture, when Jesus comes back, we will meet Him in the air, those who are still on this earth, and Jesus will rule and reign. There is no escape from any kind of tribulation. Sorry Fundies! The Church has never had that belief, it is a made up fairy tale.

When we die here and now, only our souls or spirits go to Heaven, and the world remains as it is, sin- and sorrow-infected. When Jesus comes again, he will end time, wipe out the present system of the world, and create a new heaven and earth full of harmony, love, and peace, with no sin or sorrow. The dead--at least the dead in Christ--will be reunited with their bodies, and the bodies will be new, healthy, and immortal.

Because we want to see Him(Jesus). We want to see our loved ones who have passed on,thats the rapture anyways...the second coming is when Jesus will come down and stop the war(Armageddon),then there will truly be peace in this world...all of the world.

Psalm 37:11 however the meek ones themselves will very own the earth, and that they'll surely discover their beautiful delight interior the abundance of peace. 29 The righteous themselves will very own the earth, and that they'll stay continuously upon it.

They want to see some loaves of bread divided and a mountain crumble to the ground and bullets stop in midair and stuff we see in the movies. I want to see that stuff too, but it can wait until after Christmas.
