Edelbrock Carb
I run a '72 ford pickup with a '85 HO 302 mustang engine and the Edelbrock carb works killer. It's a 'Camper Special' (has 1 ton gear under it). Been towing dozer with it for 7 years. It's not bad, but I sure do miss the flat head V8.

If your motor is stock, try a performer intake and a 500 cfm Edelbrock carb. Rebuild the motor, replace the heads and go with a bigger cam and you can step up to a 600 cfm carb. With motors bigger isn't better, you may be tempted to get a 600 or even 700 cfm carb. They will flood the motor with more air and fuel than the motor can handle and performance will suffer. Good luck.

2 bbl use the stock carb. 4 bbl use an edelbrock. then tune it right for ur best performance. remember rod bolts on stock 302 are only 5/16 so use a good oil 20/50 for hard usage.

first answerer is right, holleys are the best GARBage out there. they are trash. go with an edelbrock performer 600 cfm. that's plenty for a 302, but if you've got a cam in it you might look into more.

You're describing a vacuum leak. You might have left a hose off that operates the solenoid that cracks the choke plate when the engine starts.
