The Royal Saudi family is about 50,000 people. If they went to a democracy, that would leave about 49,900 without a paycheck.

Well Saudi Arabia makes no claims of being a democracy, its a Kingdom. Its ruled by a Royal Family and citizens of that country can only hope for a benevolent king.

As far as the question about democracy and Islam, well I believe that an Islamic republic cannot be truly democratic. It can only have one party, and cannot allow for criticism of its faith, or rulers.

Iran had a democracy, but it was overthrown in 1953 by a country that values that type of government. Then another mess was made imposing democracy in another part of the world. Maybe the Saudis are right to be a little allergic to the concept.

Well look at the Biblical history of the jews who came out of Eygpt. They cried for years for a leader to free them, but when they got freed, they wanted to go back to Eygyp. God made them wander for 40 years because of their nagging nature. It takes years to turn around a nation, Iraq has been like the gangs in the US for so long they don't know what else to do.

Yes the citizens might just vote them out of office.
The God they serve,allows no choice,He is A Hard Taskmaster.
The "Family" that rules,must think the individual,is too dumb
to run country.

It's a threat to those in power. They don't want to share that power with anyone else because they might loose some of theirs.
