First of all, a facial burn can be an emergency, so being seen in an emergency room at the very least if not a burn center would be warranted.

Treatment of burns varies by depth. Redness with intact skin and no blistering is a so-called 1st degree burn and can be treated with aloe or burn ointments for pain control. If there is blistering, it could be a superfical partial thickness or a deep partial thickness burn. These are very painful and can become infected. They can also result in a scar contracture when they heal that can partly disfigure your face. Appropriate burn care by a specialist is needed. Since it is hurting, it is not full thickness or a 3rd degree burn. So don't worry about that.

You did the right thing with cool water. Don't use ice. Cover the wound with an antibiotic ointment such as bacitracin and keep it covered in gauze.

When you have an emergency like this, never ask Yahoo! questions for answers.

Well okay. Just put some cold water or ice on it. It stings, yeah, we all know that.

You can apply 100% pure coconut oil, contrary to popular belief coconut oil will take the heat out of the burn. It must be 100% pure or else you are wasting your time and money. Don't apply it too thickly or it won't have an effect. Using coconut oil it will not leave a scar. All the best.
