The diference in a sealed box and any kind of ported box is that it takes almost twice the amount of watts to push your subs in a sealed box than it does a ported box.The sub is alot easier to move when it is ported. Its almost like haveing the sub out of the box completely when it is in a ported box.If you have a sealed box the sub is very hard to move and thats why it takes alot more power to push. The difference between bandpass and just ported is in a bandpass the sub/s are yes ported but are also enclosed so it kindof gives you a little bit of both.A ported box just makes it easier to get a pretty good thump without spending alot on an amp but nothing beats the powerful beat that a sealed box with the right amount of watts gives.

sound travels in air and makes sound waves that vibrate like a wave thru the air. when you pluged the port u stopped the airflow.
and bass soundwaves are slower than higher notes.. the difference in bandpass and ported enclosures has to do with the same principle. that being how the sound wave is directed to the open air.

sub woofers are the speakers and the box is needed to make a good sound they need certain air space to get optimal sound out of the so sub boxes are just the box they go in
